George,

Police killing of black men must stop or else...! In the last 26 days 4 unarmed black men have been killed by white policemen. They are: 43-year old Eric Garner, killed on July 17 in New York City; 22 -year old John Crawford, Killed on August 5 in Beavercreek, Ohio; 18-year old Michael Brown killed on August 9 in Ferguson,Mo.; 25 year old Ezell Ford, killed on August 11 in Los Angeles.

A pertinent question: would these 4 black men had a fighting chance of being alive had they been armed? Surely, nothing worse than being murdered by policemen could have happened to them if they had had been armed.

Michael Brown was killed in Ferguson, Missouri which has a population of 21,000, composed of 65% black. Ferguson has 53 commissioned police officers, 48 are white. In that city blacks account for 86% of the traffic stops, 93% of arrests after stops, 92% of searches after stops in the city last year according to a Racial Profiling Report by the Missouri Attorney General.

This is a grave matter that warrants blacks taking direct action as they did in the fifties and sixties and following the acquittal of policemen who in the early nineties savagely beat Rodney King in Los Angeles. In addition, African Americans join with me in calling on President Obama and the U.S. Justice Department to focus on the killing of black men by policemen who do so with immunity. Mr. President let no less interest be given to the police abuse and murder of black men in America than is given to the killings in Afghanistan and the Mid-East.

Uriah J. Fields (Electronic mail, August 14, 2014)ere fired.
