For the second straight year as part of First Night Virginia, the First Amendment Monument served as the location for people to express their hopes and/or resolutions for the New Year. Between 2:00 - 5:00 PM on the last day of 2006, over 120 people wrote their wishes for 2007, including Anne Holton, the First Lady of Virginia. In addition to English, messages were expressed in Hebrew, French, Chinese, Hindi, Japanese, and Thai. (Joshua Wheeler, electronic mail, January 3, 2006)
