In the New York Times of April 2, 2004, James Barron continues his series of reports on the making of a Steinway grand piano. He explains that Steinway chose this piano to be one of the 300 or so grands in its concert fleet, a bank of pianos the company lends out for concerts, recitals, recording sessions and television programs. It was moved to the basement of the showroom on West 57th Street in New York, near Carnegie Hall, for further adjustment followed by trials by concert pianists.

For additional information from the Loper website about grand pianos and a listing of the articles in this series, please see A Piano in the Parlor.
