George,
In response to your inquiry about
the American Candidate program, I did receive notice of it several weeks
ago. I was not sure how to evaluate it as far as a focus for the Albemarle Democratic Committee
was concerned, so I forwarded the note to the Steering Committee. I received
no response from anyone on the Committee, so I took no action. It was not
discussed at the Steering Committee meeting as it seemed pretty clear that
no one had any interest in such a discussion.
I am still not sure what the true impact of this type of programming
will be. My feeling is that the County Steering Committee has got several
pressing items on its agenda right now. We are organizing a voter registration
/ voter identification drive in the County on June 26. We have just completed
the first edition of a newsletter to the larger Committee and any other
subscribers that might be interested. These two projects have clear impact
as to the energizing of the County Democratic Party as will as increasing
the pool of voters for the November election. I simply determined that since
there was no interest on the part of the Steering Committee that my best
effort was to focus my attention and the attention of the Steering Committee
on the projects that I mentioned above.
Thank you for your inquiry, but let me assure you that we will be involved
if it would become clear how the programming might assist the County Party
in its effort to contribute to a victory for Al
Weed in Congress and John Kerry
for the White House.
