Graduation Poem 2009
July 1st, 2009True hope is swift, and flies with Swallow’s wings -
Act 5, Richard III, Shakespeare
A speck of red, a patch of blue,
tails deeply forked,
a flight of swallows
ride low over the Delaware,
rising and falling
in sweeping arabesques,
hawking insects, uttering witt-witt
and splee-plink. I am
dizzy with delight.
George Loper, July 1, 2009
