Blake Answers the Call (and the best answer is not reversion)
On January 7, 1998, James Blake Caravati announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for the Charlottesville City Council.
In his press release, he said, "...it has become clear to me that reversion is not the best answer for our city. All of us have worked too hard to lose our accomplishments and identity. As the County continues to grow, it has become more evident that it is only a historical and political accident that the city is trapped and unable to annex."
"We must work with the county (to achieve) cooperative solutions that share equitably the responsibilities that our communites face, but any negotiated settlement must be fair for the citizens of Charlottesville today and for our children tomorrow."
"It is for this reason that as a Councilor, I would require that before reversion is considered or any agreement is struck that all of our citizens have a direct voice in such a structural change."
